We're delivering truth to Liddy Dole's office on Friday - Stop the racist NCGOP ad

On Friday morning I'm heading to Senator Elizabeth Dole's Raleigh office with a delegation of NC bloggers and concerned citizens to deliver a petition requesting that the U.S. Senator put a stop to the color arousal/racist ad floated by the NC GOP and its head Linda Daves. John McCain has already said he can do nothing about it. Dole doesn't even give a damn:
Dole said in an interview she didn't want to get involved."I am concentrating on getting my work done here in the Senate, and I'm just not going to get into refereeing a third party political ad that has nothing to do with my race," she said.
Four television stations have accepted the NCGOP ad: WCTI in New Bern, WECT in Wilmington, WLOS in Asheville and WXII in Winston-Salem.
We are asking perpetually no-show-in-NC Senator Dole to send this letter to Linda Daves:
Dear Chairwoman Linda Daves,
I disapprove of the content of the North Carolina Republican Party's recent advertisement "Extreme". I feel that it resorts to a type of negative politicking that betrays the best interest of North Carolinians.
I call on you, as Chairwoman of the North Carolina Republican Party, to immediately stop airing this advertisement. Failure to do so will reflect negatively on all North Carolina Republicans, and would necessitate that I return the Party's contributions to my campaign to disassociate myself from the vitriol which you appear to embrace.
With the assistance of Firedoglake's Jane Hamsher and her readers, we have a heap of signatures to drop off at Liddy's office. BlueNC's NCDem Amy is going to be videographer for the event and we're going to spread it virally.
If you're in the area and want to help deliver some truth to Liddy, let me know in the comments.

Excellent Pam!
This has been bumped and we'll keep promoting this. I wish I could be there, but I'm a bit too far away and have signs to put out for several campaigns. Thanks for all you do.
Robin Hayes lied. Nobody died, but thousands of folks lost their jobs.
Wish I could be there.
Can't wait to see the video. Can't wait to see if Dole's office actually approves of the ad or not.

Voters want to know!
Does she approve or not? ;)
Looking forward to the event.
Thanks Pam!

She'll dodge and dodge
and should thus be asked again and again.
And again.
The idea that she's busy working at anything is kind of silly, so no one is going to buy that one.

Excellent work, Pam.

This is a hijack
Something is not right about this post. In fact, something is very, very wrong with it.
So much worse than that, Brunette
The real problem with these posts, especially when they are posted in the comments of an unrelated or semi-related message, is that (1) they leave an electronic trail and (2) they propagate virally.
As far as I know (and I don't mean that in a "Is He Muslim" sense), Pam has no opinion on the aforementioned. But, within days, Google and various other search engines will index this page. As people search for Pam (or her post), they'll also find this post. There is now a trail that connects Pam, BlueNC and this topic posted by a drive-by posting on someone else's blog.
And, as a corollary, the subject of the comment now appears in one additional place -- a prominent (or soon to be prominent) NC blog. Whenever someone searches for the aforementioned subject (Daub, Nebraska, rape), BlueNC will show in the message. The subject -- whether true or false, fact or opinion, legitimate statement or libelous smear -- has been "published" in one more place, and BlueNC's brand is associated with it. Even if it only appears in 100 other blogs, the story is given a legitimacy that it may or may not deserve.
I'll admit that I may be carrying this too far, but I like to think that if it's on BlueNC, it probably means someone is talking about it (even if it isn't on the front page).
I feel like this issue is dead now
After Obama "threw Wright under the bus" I feel like the NC Republican party doesn't even have the pretense anymore to run this ad. Whatever link there was between Wright and Obama is now rhetorically severed, so I imagine the imaginary link between that and Moore and Perdue is now gone too.
It's not a dead issue, imo
The Republicans will still use Wright against Obama. Regardless, on principle, this ad should be denounced.
If the Chair of the Republican party refuses to do so, then other Republican leaders should step up and do their job.
If Dole refuses to do the right thing here, people will be reminded of that during the GE when she runs against one of our Democrats.

Severed?
Too late. BO is an active member of JW's church for twenty something years while JW spews his hate and now, when it threatens his candidacy, now he repudiates JW? You don't wipe out that long of an association with a single repudiation. And JW likes to run his mouth too much. Now that he's got the spotlight, do you really think he's going to voluntarily recede back into obscurity?
Even if he does
you'll find a way to keep him in the public eye. I have confidence in you.
Seems like most everyone else has figured it out too

.....that doddering diva.

Looks like at least one R doesn't like
negative campaigning ... at least R on R negative campaigning. This is a letter to the editor about a negative flyer in Johnston's R primary for our open NC Senate seat. (Yes, we have a Dem primary for that seat, too.)
Wonder if Mr. Renfer approves of the NC GOP doing issue-less, nasty, negative campaigning against Dems?

The Race Card is my only issue here...
First, let me say I don't like the NC GOP ad and I think its a pretty far reach to try and smear a candidate by using the pastor of a presidential candidate they've endorsed.
My issue mainly is with the tone of the rebuttal, especially when it comes to the race card. I really don't feel like the issue with this ad is racially inclined at all. The race card has been played in the campaign, by both sides to be fair, but I really don't see it in this context.
Second, I can't help but wonder if the outrage over this ad is giving it more publicity (and by proxy, free press for the NC GOP) than it deserves. The NC GOP is so strapped for cash I doubt they'll be able to play it much, and there are already media outlets refusing to broadcast it.
Personally, I'd leave it at that instead of trying to tie this albatross around Liddy Dole's neck. She's already provided plenty of ammunition for her defeat in the Fall.
I know I may be in the minority on this, but I think its time to let that ad go and focus on bigger things.
Doc
I think the point here is to force Dole to make a stand.
This is not so much about the ad, but about Elizabeth Dole's ineffectiveness. Personally, I'd like to see it taken to each Republican Congressional Representative and Senator Burr's office as well. But Liddy is the one on the chopping block, and she's the one targeted by this move. She refused to take a stand on the ad - is it offensive; or is it not? She said that the NC-GOP was a "third party" - does that mean does not consider herself a member of the NC-GOP? That's funny, because as a Democrat, who lives NC, I consider myself a member of the NCDP. I guess since she's a Republican who lives somewhere else, she doesn't consider herself a member of the NC-GOP.
And that's the point of this exercise, I think.

I understand
And the argument is fair, other than Governor, our Senators are arguably the strongest wielders of influence in their respective party machinery, and she seems to view the NC GOP as a 3rd party (though I think her context meant otherwise, in the interest of intellectual honesty)?
In reality, the NCGOP isn't a 527 group, its her own state's party (if you believe her to truly be a North Carolinian, I don't, any more than Hillary is a New Yorker).
Pressing her to take a stand I guess is fine, I just dislike the racial undertones of the rebuttal. Race isn't in play on this one imo, integrity and principles are.
It's done!
Woot!
Please stay tuned for Pam's blogpost on this event!
