Westboro Baptist idiots target Elizabeth Edwards

Other towns and cities have done so with great success. All you need are about a hundred people with positive signs that honor and thank Elizabeth Edwards surrounding this group and blocking them in. No signs or chants responding to those crazies, please. We will get press, so it is important that we keep this postiive and uplifting and worthy of Elizabeth Edwards and all she stood for.

not a counter protest. A vigil wall of protection for Elizabeth's loved ones. I will be there.

Even if it's just me and my one sign in front of them, I will be there.

My sign will say something like, "Let your light so shine before men." or "The greatest of these is Love." or "Grace" or "Mercy" or "Hope" or "Love" or "Light" or "Kindness" or "Holding you in the Light" or something like that ... I don't know yet.

But I will be there, come Hell or high water.

We do not want to be part of a circus. What I have in mind is not a counter demonstration but a tribute to Elizabeth Edwards. Responding to those nutjobs in any way, by sign or word, would give credence to their message, and this is the last thing we want to do. However, we do not want them to have even one second on TV. Only tasteful signs expressing our gratitude and admiration for this great lady should be displayed, and we would not engage the other group at all, just surround them and keep them out of sight.

The Edwards family has been offered an “Angel Honor Guard” and folks in Wake County are standing by to construct the wings. If they agree and you are interested in being part of the Angel Honor Guard or want to help make wings, let me know. We are also looking for Gospel Choirs to sing hymns to drown out the Westboro group and are contacting churches in the area.

I just found out that the City of Raleigh has ruled that no permit is necesary for either the Westboro group or us.

Rumors have it that Bill Clinton may attend, so security might be very tight.

FYI, the NC disorderly conduct statute 14‑288.4 specifically addresses funerals:

(a) Disorderly conduct is a public disturbance intentionally caused by any person who does any of the following:

(8) Engages in conduct with the intent to impede, disrupt, disturb, or interfere with the orderly administration of any funeral, memorial service, or family processional to the funeral or memorial service, including a military funeral, service, or family processional, or with the normal activities and functions occurring in the facilities or buildings where a funeral or memorial service, including a military funeral or memorial service, is taking place. Any of the following conduct that occurs within one hour preceding, during, or within one hour after a funeral or memorial service shall constitute disorderly conduct under this subdivision:

a. Displaying, within 300 feet of the ceremonial site, location being used for the funeral or memorial, or the family's processional route to the funeral or memorial service, any visual image that conveys fighting words or actual or imminent threats of harm directed to any person or property associated with the funeral, memorial service, or processional route.

b. Uttering, within 300 feet of the ceremonial site, location being used for the funeral or memorial service, or the family's processional route to the funeral or memorial service, loud, threatening, or abusive language or singing, chanting, whistling, or yelling with or without noise amplification in a manner that would tend to impede, disrupt, disturb, or interfere with a funeral, memorial service, or processional route.

c. Attempting to block or blocking pedestrian or vehicular access to the ceremonial site or location being used for a funeral or memorial.

Bringing American flags (not fags) to the occasion to block out the Westboro crazies.

Strife like this caused by people acting in the name of god is truly a perversion.
