Where's the outrage?

In his excellent post, HillWilliam describes the betrayal of the American people perpetrated by Congress yesterday.

There are various posts in the liberal blogosphere condemning this action (some linked here). Personally, I'm undecided whether to put the rest of my beer in the fridge and drown my melancholy, or just to throw up.

The United States of America, long considered a bastion of the rule of law, has descended into fascism. Not "is descending," but "has descended." We are now living in a police state. The government can detain you without charge as an enemy combatant -- for any reason the president sees fit. Without oversight.

A man who lived in Yugoslavia in the late 80s and early 90s, when thugs like Milosevic were taking power, had this to say:

within three years, I predict that Americans will be fighting Americans on American soil. Just a hunch. An eerie feeling of deja vu from someone who has seen the same signs fifteen years ago.

Where is the outrage? More Americans are likely to be able to tell you who got voted off the island this week than that the writ of habeas corpus, nay, the Constitution of the United States of America and the Bill of Rights, has been suspended until further notice. We must write. We must protest. Our voices must be heard, and the sleeping American public, who are not being served by the media which has fallen asleep on its job, must be wakened.

Our Senators' interests may lie primarily in holding the party line, and they serve their special interests (those who give them money) more than they serve their consituents, yet certainly people demonstrating peacefully outside their offices will draw their attention.

We must make our voices heard. We must protest. If we start in Raleigh, in the states, we will assuredly end in Washington. The government cannot ignore people standing on its doorstep, and they surely cannot arrest us all.

I will put the outrage off until November 8th

From today going forward, I will express my outrage by working to elect Democrats to Congress so that they can work to fix all of the things the Republicans have broken - including our Constitution.

I'm ready for some serious

taking to the streets.

I'm sure I'm already listed as a terrist suspect on some NSA or FBI list, so a little civil disobedience won't make things much worse.

But I would not be surprised at all to find a knock on my door at night. To feel a jab in the kidneys and groin. To end up in a secret cell.

I send a "fuck you" letter to George Bush almost every day. They have my number.

If you stop blogging suddenly,

we'll know something's up.

Do you think sending letters to Dole and Burr will do a damn thing?

I've toyed with the idea of moving to Germany before, and today I looked more thoroughly into the prospect. (Sadly, dealing with the hassle of pharmacist licensure between here and there sounds like a lot of effort.)

We've talked about Dull and Brrrrr a few times

around here and some folks are tireless in their willingness to write to the two Bushbots. I personally think it's a waste of time. I used to write and got a few form letter responses . . . and then started getting nothing.

Dull and Brrrrrr strike me a mindless automatons who couldn't vote with integrity and honor if their lives depended on it. The are solidly in the center of the Party of Torture.

The Dark Side Chronicles

Charlotte Mayor Pat McCrory says he wants to change the culture in Raleigh. I guess that's why he wrote this letter to PAC lobbyists asking for their fundraising help. Change you can believe in? Riiiiiiight. Join the conversation here.
