Whew!

This was one crazy and exciting day. Jane, my usual partner in partying, was stuck in Miami, so I had to be Mr. Sociable all by my lonesome at our fundraiser for Jim Neal. But I'll tell you what, it was a good one.

Here's a quick report:

I got the chance to finally meet Marshall Adame, and I already owe him a big apology. I forgot to introduce him as an honored guest when I was welcoming everyone to the event. I'm sorry Marshall. But just so everyone doesn't think I'm a total schmuck, I suspect Marshall met everyone anyway. He definitely knows how work the crowd.

Jim Neal gave a rousing speech and won over a number of folks who came to size him up. This guy is great at retail politics. Good solid answers to good questions on energy, immigration, and Bush's War, in particular.

A big highlight for me was the significant blogger turn-out, not just BlueNC regulars. Brian, Brunette, Chun Yang (thanks for the banana nut bread!), Graig, Lanya, Lee, Molly, MojoMom, Ruby , Steve, and Will.

UPDATE:

Please be sure to read Gordon Smith's write-up from Jim's visit to Asheville. Gordon did a much better job than I in covering comments Jim made.

I'm sure I forgot somebody, but I promise

It's just because I suck in the name and social niceties department and there were too many people (50 or so) for me to keep up with.

The photo is of Jim talking, with Brian R., taping him (black t-shirt). I hope Brian will be able to post some or all of Jim's stump speech. He definitely had a good vantage point!

Great to see you had Jim over, Anglico

I had the chance to meet him last week, and, you're right, he's affable and straightforward as can be.

If you're interested, my take is here

thanks for the write up

It sounds like he impressed you.

I especially liked his clarifying comment at your site. He seems to have a very cut and dry no bs way of looking at things. Its a good sign for the future I hope.

"Keep the Faith"

Yay, Wonderful

beautiful day for a fundraiser. Glad the turnout was so strong.

Jim Neal event was great. Thanks James

John Simensen (my campaign manager) and I came in from Jacksonville and I am glad we did.

James,,, you are a great host and your home is beautiful. I am so glad we finally got to actually see each other.

Meeting Jim Neal was great and I spoke enough with him to sence his reasons are legitimate and his desire to serve is genuine.
It was my honor to meet all of the Jim Neal supporters as well.

Thanks again James. Hope to see you again soon

Thanks, Marshall

It was very wonderful to meet you and John too. Thanks for making the trip . . . you definitely got the "traveled longest distance to be here award."

Jim Neal Video

I am very impressed by Jim Neal's realness. He's a regular North Carolinian. More video files to come. Better quality. Etc.

You're awesome, Brian! Thanks for posting this.

Who's the weird bald guy at the beginning?

:)

NOTE TO EVERYONE: Just fast forward through that grumpy old man and get right to the candidate!

I'm Speechless.

Am I seeing what I think I'm seeing? Can we really be so lucky that this guy wants to be our Senator? He is THE F****** BEST!

Thanks to All

BlueNCers

I tip my hat to James and Jane for hosting yesterday's fundraiser as I do their steadfast friendship and support. The response during and after the event was almost as awesome as the weather....though I must admit I wouldn't mind a whole lotta rain and some more seasonal, Holiday-ish temperatures. This morning I saw a bumble bee pollinating a flower and it's December 10th for heaven's sake. That Gore guy is onto something.

And speaking of being onto something-- this campaign's on a roll. This campaign is rearing her head. This campaign is moving forward while Senator Dole stands still, rigid in her steadfast support for the failed foreign and domestic policies of the Bush Administration. This campaign is listening to the people across our state who crave a new breed leadership from someone like me who has come of age in the real world and is not afraid to stand up on principle, to separate politics from pragmatism and to put people ahead of partisanship. The status quo isn't working for North Carolinians and our country. The people of this state aren't willing to turn over the reigns of their democracy to a system dominated by carefully-crafted political professionals who systemically put their own agendas ahead of the interests of those they are elected to represent. This campaign is not about more of the same, we are about the best for more.

Yesterday I pledged that I am someone who will do what I say I am going to do. With the financial and volunteer support of you and all of your friends, family, co-workers, neighbors and bloggers I am going to be elected as your next Senator from North Carolina. When I walk down the aisle toward the well of the Senate in January 2009, I'll be taking a stroll for all of us.

Mark my word........

And Helms begat Reagan...

Arguably, Ronald Reagan's Helms enabled win in the 1976 NC primary was all the encouragement he needed to try again in 1980, setting the stage for the Reagan Revolution and synergistic escapades like this one...

TrueMeckDem on Myers Park Pat

"My opinion of Pat has changed over the years. I used to think he was truly a man of the people but the longer he has been mayor, the less I think of him.

As with most cities, Charlotte has three political parties: Dem, Rep, and Chamber of Commerce. Pat is definitely the puppet of the COC here. What is good for business is good for Charlotte and Pat ... very personable guy, he has gotten a bunch of Dems in these parts to vote for him but I don't trust him."
