Is that any way to treat a lady?

The Wilmington Star-News has a great editorial this morning that reads in part:

Beverly Perdue, a simple maid from the mountains whose modesty and virtue propelled her to the dizzy heights of the lieutenant governor's office, has been shocked to learn that a top aide to Treasurer Richard Moore used a state computer and a false name to ask for information, apparently in hopes of embarrassing her somehow.

The Clintons? Again? Why?

Texan Molly Ivins was one of the savviest political reporters of all time. She once said (paraphrased) "As I survey the pack of sycophants in the Washington press corps, wriggling on their bellies to kiss the feet of those in power, I feel plumb discouraged about the future of journalism." Many syndicated pundits frequenting the pages of our newspaper are most certainly wriggling on their bellies to kiss Hillary Clinton's feet and crown her even before the election.

No Sacrifice too great...

Presidential hopeful Romney, like all Republican candidates, vigorously supported sending more of our loved ones to Iraq. During his recent "Ask Mitt Anything" tour in Bettendorf, Iowa he was asked: "Are any of your five sons currently serving in the United States military and if not, are any of them planning to support the war on terror by enlisting in the United States Military?" I can't believe it....Congressional Unanimity in North Carolina?

Well, Almost! Would you believe that all (but one) of our Congressional Representatives voted the same on a recent Amendment to the the Farm, Nutrition, and Bioenergy Act of 2007? First, I couldn't believe that Republicans and Democrats would actually agree on something, and then I started to wonder why. Follow me below the fold for the details...

We did what we were asked to do...

A recent college graduate and newly minted ROTC 2nd LT in January, 1965, I reported to Ft. Bliss Texas and joined about 50 others to start my Officers Basic Class in Air Defense Artillery (ADA). A few months later I was assigned to a STRAC (Strategic Army Corp - combat groups designated to be ready to go anywhere in the world in 72hrs) HAWK missile battalion at Ft. Bliss. The next month or so was intense. We lived in the desert...moving, setting up, and running ORE's. (Operational Readiness Evaluations). Sleeping in the desert in a bag on the sand is a treat...snakes, bugs, and cold...not to mention the blowing, stinging, sand.

Now and then I get a real wedgie over how my Congressman, Mike McIntyre, votes on issues I think are important. I decided to look into his voting record and try to compare his stance on issues as opposed to, for example, Watt, Price and Miller....who generally vote the way I think.

Long story short, it's not that simple. If one googles "Congressional Voting Records," up comes an interesting array of organizations all anxious to tell how individuals voted on their issues. Public Citizen, American Association of University Women, various unions, retired citizens...and just about every group one can think of tracks and measures votes on issues these organizations feel are critical to their interests.   More below the fold...

It's crunch time...support John and Elizabeth Edwards today!

Although I haven't actually met all the regulars here I've come to think of us as an extended family. We squabble occassionally but usually in a good natured way. And, we all have the common dream of living in a state and a nation governed by folks whose first priority is what's best for "we the people." There hasn't been much of that type of governance going on in America or North Carolina for a long time and we're each in our way, and collectively, fighting to take back our country. I want to talk with you about two members of our family who need your help. I'm going to ask you to put your money where your heart is, and and ask you to do all you can to help them help us take our country back. More below the fold.

OLF- Site C update....McIntyre responds...

After weeks of faxing and numerous letters McIntyre's office called this evening and apologized for being slow to respond on the OLF issue. However, his staff person said Representative McIntyre is now talking with the Southern Environmental Law Center and, while wanting to remain "friendly" with the military, is asking if there isn't another approach to solving the Navy's needs.

The staff person mentioned it would be helpful if other Congressmen were being contacted about this. So...all I can say is let's give Walter Jones a real whipping on this...letters and faxes and emails...and let's also ask our other Dems to get involved.

Please...send an email or fax or call your congressman. All the contact Numbers are quickly available on my blog SE NC Dems...my blog
