For those of us who sat with white knuckles while Kerry picked up one primary state after another following Iowa, the time has come. After two years of fighting for every seat, for our Congress, and for our Senate - it's time to fight for the leadership of our party. The President leads the party, and now is the time to pick a Democrat for President.
In the summer and fall of 2003, I came to believe that Senator John Edwards could lead our party best. I feel no different now.
And, so it begins...
Today, on December 28th 2006, Senator Edwards will announce his candidacy for President. His announcement, in my eyes, should have one of those Bush backdrops with "Back to the Future" emblazoned on it, as he continues to fight for the ideals that defined the Democratic Party. The ideals that lead us through the Great Depression, that lead us through two World Wars, that lead us through integration and the Civil Rights revolution in the 1960s.
Back to populism.
Back to the New Deal.
Back to a helping hand up, not a hand out, nor a back of the hand, which Republicans would offer.
We live in a world that is no better off than the one we inherited, and is in fact worse off than the one we were born into.
Our Planet is harmed.
Our country is at war with an ideal.
Our children go to sleep hungry, and without a roof over their head.
Our elderly, those who fought their way through World War II, Korea, and Vietnam, go without proper medical care for the cost is too high.
Our towns and villages die as jobs are shipped overseas, never to return.
Those of us on this forum fight for that which we have lost, that which so many Americans seem to have forgotten existed after 30 years of conservative leadership. Yes, we all fight (even if among ourselves at the moment) and we will continue to fight for this country and this planet - no matter what. We will sow the seeds of Hope in this election, the Hope that was so prominent in the past campaigns of Senator Edwards, so that one day we may reap the harvest of a better country and a better world.
And, so it begins...
