Burr brags about torture

Playing to the base instincts of the base:

“The information that eventually led us to this compound was the direct result of enhanced interrogations; one can conclude if we had not used enhanced interrogations, we would not have come to yesterday's action,” US Senator Richard Burr in a telephone interview with CNBC.

Aside from the shameful act of using this information to enhance his political standing, Senator Burr has also demonstrated, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that he doesn't possess the discretion to be briefed on intelligence matters.

Prove it, Burr

You can't go around making claims like this without backing them up with proof. From everything I've read, there is no evidence that torture had anything to do with this operation.

But as you say, if this operation did depend on torture, then Burr's pronouncement violates every principle of intelligence and secrecy ... once again proving that Richard Do-Nothing Burr is an opportunistic political whore.

Chickenhawk in training

You know, I'm not one of those veterans who think non-veterans should have no say in military or strategic programs. As a matter of fact, civilian control of these powers is integral.

But when I see aggressive words like the above, or like these:

There still remains a dire threat posed by Bin Laden’s followers and the seeds of hate he planted across the globe, and while we are immensely grateful for this victory, our work is far from over.

It makes it apparent that people like Burr have no desire to bring to an end the collateral damage and suffering that an endless war on terror has and will continue to produce.

Of course Burr's "work" is never done ... it's actually never even started. If they had a contest for laziest fuck-up in the Senate, Burr would win hands down.

Thanks for fixing the title

I can't believe I misspelled the word "brags". Probably a product of repressed memories from SERE training...

This is an absurd statement by Burr

We've been torturing people for years now.

If torture worked so well, why didn't we get bin Laden in 2001 or 2002 or 2003 or 2004 or 2005 or 2006 or 2007 or 2008 or 2009 or 2010?

Now that the tyrannical powers of both parties in DC declare bin Laden dead to the populace, quit suspending the Constitution.

Judges and justices, this means you too.

Endless war can not be justified.
