STUDENT AT MT. TABOR HIGH SCHOOL DIES FROM GUNSHOT WOUND: One student is dead and a suspect has been arrested after a shooting Wednesday at a North Carolina high school, according to local officials. Law enforcement responded to Mount Tabor High School in Winston-Salem at 12:07 p.m. after the school resource officer reported a student was shot, Winston-Salem Police Chief Catrina Thompson said in a news conference. About 1,500 students attend the high school, which is in a residential neighborhood about 83 miles northeast of Charlotte. The school immediately went into lockdown, Thompson said. Law enforcement subsequently located one student, William Chavis Raynard Miller Jr., with a gunshot wound. Holding back tears, Thompson told reporters Miller was taken to Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, where he later died.

ENLOE HIGH STUDENT FOUND WITH TWO GUNS IN HIS POSSESSION: In a message Thursday to families, Enloe Principal Jacqueline Jordan said a school employee was alerted about a student having a weapon on campus. School staff escorted the student to the main office, where the teenager was found to be in possession of two firearms, according to Jordan. Jordan said a law enforcement investigation determined that two students may have handled or seen the firearms. It was not immediately clear what criminal charges the students may face. A Raleigh Police spokeswoman said they’re working to gather more information on the incident. He had to get them somewhere, either from home or via private purchase. I'm not a big fan of incarceration, but he should be locked up until he reveals who he got the guns from.

SHOOTING AT NEW HANOVER HIGH SCHOOL ON MONDAY: A North Carolina high school was on lockdown and at least one student was injured after a shooting Monday, according to reports from officials and local media outlets. Deputies were on the scene at New Hanover High School in Wilmington “due to a shooting,” the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post just after noon. Students were being evacuated to nearby Williston Middle School. “Parents will need to pick up their children from the MLK Center once the school has done an accurate headcount,” the sheriff’s office said. In a post just after 3 p.m., the sheriff’s office said 15-year-old Chance Deablo was arrested and charged with attempted first-degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, possession of a weapon on school grounds, and discharging a weapon on school grounds. Again, he got the gun from somebody, and that person needs to be locked up as well.

3 CHARLOTTE HIGH SCHOOLS SEE STUDENTS ARRESTED FOR GUNS: On Aug. 26, officers were called to a reported robbery at Mallard Creek High School just before 2 p.m. When officers got to the school, a staff member was able to locate the suspect and the student was arrested. Officers found a knife, a stolen gun and marijuana in the suspect's possession. Because of their age, the student has not been identified. They were charged with common law robbery, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a concealed weapon and two other felony weapons charges. On Friday morning, officers were called to a report of an armed person at West Charlotte High School. When officers got to the school, they found a car with weapons accessories in plain view in the student parking lot. During a search, officers found three guns inside the car. The owner of the vehicle, a West Charlotte student, had a BB gun that was modeled to look like a Glock 9 pistol in his possession. The student was charged with possession of a weapon at school, possession of stolen goods, possession of a handgun by a minor, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana.

AND WE CAN'T FORGET CABARRUS COUNTY, SUMMER CAMP FROM HELL: A 12-year-old student at Hickory Ridge Middle School brought a handgun to campus on June 29, the Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office said. Officers and school officials investigated the incident at the Jump Start summer camp and spoke with the student’s parent. The student was released to the custody of their parents following the investigation. A woman told Channel 9 that the student pointed the loaded gun at her 12-year-old niece. Richmond’s niece said she was in PE class when the child pulled the gun out of a bag. “She reached down pulled the gun, cocked it back, and said, ‘I’m going to shoot you, kill you and bury you,’” the aunt told Channel 9. Richmond said that even though her niece told an administrator what happened, the school never contacted her family directly. They got an email alert hours after the incident that went out to the entire camp. “Parents should be notified by phone, not four hours later in an email saying, ‘We handled it,’” Richmond said. “I want answers, you know? Did she get arrested or what happened? How did she get her hands on the firearms?” We all want answers, but rarely get any.
