G.K. Butterfield Set to Become Chief Deputy Whip

fped and added a photo of Rep. Butterfield. - RP

I just ran across this bit of news about Congressman G.K. Butterfield in "The Hill." Evidently he's on the verge of being appointed to a significant post in the house leadership.

Below the post of majority leader, Democrats are setting about determining who will occupy their more minor positions in the whip operation and on their steering committee, a group that serves as a governing body for the caucus....

“The positions of senior whip and chief deputy whip are chosen by the Speaker with consultation by the majority whip. Mr. Clyburn is reaching out to current whips to discuss the position,” she said.

Clyburn has reportedly asked Rep. G.K. Butterfield (N.C.) to serve as a chief deputy whip...

He's an alumnus of NCCU

He's an alumnus of NCCU School of Law. Governor Easley appointed him to his seat when former Rep. Frank Ballance resigned for "health" reasons, and who is now serving his stint in federal prison. I know that he is a member of the Congressoinal Black Caucus and that he was on stage with Pelosi and the rest of the leadership on election night.

I imagine Ballance is healing nicely in prison

I have heard nothing negative about Butterfield. I received an email after this was posted, from a friend who is also one of his constituents and she gives an enthusiastic endorsement of him. Apparently, Butterfield is very popular with his constituents. We didn't hear much about him since he lacked opposition.

Hi you.

Happy Saturday night.

My daughter and I spent the day decorating and such. This is good - and good to decompress with mundane decisions like where to hang lights and wreaths.

I'm checking in oh...say...for 1 minute or so a couple of times a day.

Minor car issues today that were a major pain in the fanny and just trying to get all the Christmas stuff out of storeage. Urgh....lights won't go up until tomorrow night after the girls get home from school.

Glad you're getting a chance to relax a bit and have some fun after your deadlines this past week.

Our frappr map shows no BlueNCers

In that region of the state.

CountryCrats - my thoughts, my blog.

Jesus Swept ticked me off. Too short. I loved the characters and then POOF it was over.

That would be a significant leadership role

and a great coup for the Congressional Black Caucus.

I know his daughter is an actress or model who was supposed to marry a rapper and I only know this b/c when I wrote about Rep. Butterfield over at TSD I kept getting searches for her name on my activity meter.

Butterfield on an NCDP/DNC conf. call

Back in September, G.K. Butterfield joined a conference call with Jerry Meek for the DNC's "Democratic Reunion" local get togethers. I got to hear him, and I wrote a little blurb for our local yahoo groups listserve about what he said. It will add a little bit of insight.

Instead of copying the whole thing here, I'll put in a linky to "PART 3: G.K. Butterfield" on democraticDiscussions. I'm not trying to pimp. It's just that the good video link on YouTube is lost and I'm tired and don't feel like translating it all and I wanna go home and ... wwwahaahhahahah. (/whine fest)

Let me know if the link breaks or you can't see the post. I'll be away for about an hour while I travel home. :)

"They took all the trees and put them in a tree museum Then they charged the people a dollar 'n a half just to see 'em. Don't it always seem to go that you don't know what you've got till it's gone? They paved paradise and put up a parking lot."

Thanks so much for the links.

I know nothing about Butterfield beyond what I just watched. This is encouraging.
