The Heat Is On! (It's On The Street)

Crackdown! The NC State Highway Patrol is cruising for drunk drivers this week. It's hard to be sure whether this drive will more greatly impact Democrats (with their general love for socializing) or Republicans (with their general disregard for laws). Top counties for DUIs last year: Buncombe, Johnston, and Wake. Word.

Boys, boys, calm down

I met the lovely and brilliant Melanie Wade Goodwin in Kissell campaign headquarters and she has agreed to an interview. Also, let me just say she is even more lovely in person. (She's also a married mom....)

yeah, she is kinda cute, isn't she?

she's also from hamlet, which if i remember correctly is the birthplace of john coltrane, so... um... i guess that has nothing to do with anything, but how cool would it be to say that you're from the birthplace of john coltrane? especially if you're a john coltrane fan?

Goodwin?

Would her husband be Wayne Goodwin, who previously held this seat and was the Dem candidate for Sec of Labor last time around? He's a good guy.

One and the same....

Glenn Frye

Thanks. I couldn't remember who did it, just that it was the soundtrack to about a gazillion commercials at the same time.

DWI - Durham

I wonder how many Duke athletes they will catch this time...

Johnston

Wonder if my home county is a Highway Patrol target because of all the Hwys that pass through us, or if it's devine retribution on a county that has been voting heavily Republican for the last few election cycles?

"They took all the trees and put them in a tree museum Then they charged the people a dollar 'n a half just to see 'em. Don't it always seem to go that you don't know what you've got till it's gone? They paved paradise and put up a parking lot."

It could just be that y'all a buncha drunks

According the the news stories, the counties selected for enforcement are those in which the most DUI tickets were written in the prior year. It could be the case that it's a question of selective enforcement, but I don't see anything to suggest it.

I'm shocked that Dare isn't on their list. I'd wager good money that by far the highest per capita DUIs are in Dare.

We'll have to report

where we run into the roadblocks. I'm bettin' there won't be any on the roads leading to our many "golf-course communities." Johnston roadblocks will all be on the back roads where us po'folks live.

A few years back there was a big row in Cary when a DUI roadblock was done. Apparently the upper-crust of society felt it was a infringement of their Constitutional rights to be stopped and questioned, and ordered to produce a valid license without cause.

Conversely, there are frequent roadblocks on the entry ramps from Gorman to Hwy 40 (NC State territory) and on Rock Quarry near the Wake/Johnston (lower income area) line all the time. Nobody has a problem with that.

I guess your ability to drive while impaired is naturally better if your reportable income is over a certain minimum limit.

The automobile is the root of all evil

The Troll Says:
DWI's and DUI's should be completely irrelevant for all good liberals who practice what they preach. Drinking and walking, drinking and bicycling, and drinking and riding the bus don't kill children, don't pollute the environment, and doesn't increase our country's dependence on foreign oil.

I think

Drinking and cycling falls under the rubric of driving while impaired, in the legal sense of the term. Stumbling down the street drunk does not, but could get one arrested, depending on the stumble.

I'm pretty sure walking UI

will get you in trouble if you are really under the influence.
