Heath Shuler loses race for Minority Leader

Nancy Pelosi has won election to the top post in Democratic leadership in the House. She will serve as Minority Leader, defeating Blue Dog, Heath Shuler by a healthy margin. The final vote was 150-43.

From The Hill
:

Pelosi supporters were wondering why the two-term Shuler — who voted against many of the Democrats' top legislative priorities, including healthcare reform — was qualified for the position.

"The accomplishments of the last two years have been achieved without Heath's vote," Rep. James Moran (D-Va.) told reporters. "And now he wants to be leader?"

Democrats will have to continue winning in districts where voters elect more moderate or conservative candidates to regain a majority in the House. It was accomplished with Nancy Pelosi at the helm once and it can happen again.

Hurry up someone and say something

"Something!"

:)

I'm still trying to figure out why he did this. If it was to demonstrate just how ineffective the Blue Dogs are, he succeeded.

It certainly is a head-scratcher

The only thing I can think is that it provides cover for them in 2012. Their opponents in two years will not be able to claim that they voted for Pelosi for Minority Leader.

I think you're correct.

the Dogs all got together and decided this was a way out for them in 2012. Shuler, being a moran, took the bait and said "Duh, I'll do it!"

Luckily, Rep. Moran is not a moran!

I purposely used "moran"

because some tea-party enthusiast attended a rally with a big poster saying liberals were morans. :)

I an NOT a moran...yet. Soon. maybe...

I've seen that picture so

I've seen that picture so many times. The "morans" guy got a lot of play this year, I wonder if he ever got on TV.

To hell with all Blue Dogs and the GOP-lite crap they ran on

Just f@cking switch parties and be done with it.

And I wish that nutjob down east would've beaten Mike McIntyre so we would have been rid of that other Blue Dog once and for all.

Democrats do not win by trying to be GOP-lite.

Deliver what you say you will (actual health care reform, jobs, DADT repeal) or don't act surprised when you get your ass delivered back to you at the ballot box.

So I guess Larry has

done what he said he wouldn't do, which is join the Blue Dog coalition. Great.

Thaat's what he said. No Blue Dogs.

If we can get rid of him next time ... no pension. Sounds fair!

Stan Bozarth

urgh...Steve...c'mon

you can rant, rave and bitch all you want, but get the facts right...lol

Larry Kissell has not joined the Blue Dogs. He supported Shuler in a race for Minority Leader...or rather he did not support Pelosi. Even in his comments Shuler did not include him with the Blue Dogs he thanked but rather referred to him as being from NC.

If Larry resisted joining the Blue Dogs when they had a stronger voice within the caucus I hope he can resist joining them now.

Point taken

But you know, if he does actually (formally) join the Blue Dogs sometime in the future, I reserve the right to say, "Hah!"

:)

that would be his CAFTA vote

if'n you know what I mean....

I called and wrote many times

to our useful idiot for the repugs. Had no effect. Anyway, now I can - in all good conscience - start writing letters to ed etc to have this clown out in the TN pasture where he belongs come 2012.
