Jane describes herself as a "moderate Democrat." She is the widow of former state senator and western district attorney Charlie Hipps.
I have known Jane and Charlie for years in Waynesville. She is an experienced educator, who went back to school at age 60 to become a Nurse Practitioner. She is smart, quiet, and tough, and will represent our mountain counties well. Furthermore, she has the name recognition to present a strong challenge and a reasonable chance to win the seat.
Jim Davis, on the other hand, is beholden to Art Pope after spending over a million dollars to win twice against former senator and judge John Snow.
Here is the writeup on Jane from the Smoky Mountain News yesterday.
