Democrat Lindy Brown announced her candidacy for what will become an open House seat in southern Wake County, when Rep. Paul (Skip) Stam retires after the NCGA short session in 2016. Lindy is a retired social worker (MSW, UNC-CH), and she is a former Wake County Commissioner. She ran and won in 2006 in a county-wide race.
While she lost in the 2010 Wake Commissioner election, she is a long-time political activist with many supporters, and she is a formidable fund-raiser and stump speaker. Stam, an Apex Republican, has held the seat since 2003, and he announced last month that he won’t seek re-election next year. According to the Raleigh N&O, "the district includes Apex, Holly Springs, Fuquay-Varina and rural southern Wake. It leans Republican."
