Online commenting has evolved

Back in the day, if you spoke (wrote) your mind on an article, the only people that would see it are those who happened to read that particular article. And after 2-3 days, that number usually dwindles down to nothing, or maybe one person every week or two.

But Facebook (and other social media outlets) have changed that, by providing platforms for further dissemination. But it's not just an outlet for ranting, it can be a vehicle for providing more context to a story, helping people understand better how a particular subject affects the world around it. It's a bad metaphor, but I like to describe this as adding that 3rd dimension, that allows you to walk around something and see the whole thing, and not just a façade.
