You must go read this fabulous post about the Asphalt King, now up at Progressive Pulse.

Ever wonder what political candidates do with all that cash they raise and/or donate to themselves? One of the more interesting expenditures comes from the recent campaign report of state Senator Fred Smith. AP and The Insider are reporting that the GOP gubernatorial wannabe paid a cool $100,000 to country/pop singer Lee Greenwood for a campaign song.

Go Fred!

Imagine paying someone a hundred grand to sing a song about you? I sure hope this doesn't hurt Fred's chances of being the Republican nominee.

Fred gets a new job offer from the C&W field?

Dear Fred!

I just happen to catch this comment at a liberal blog site in the communist zone of North Carolina. I notice that you are paying that over the hill dirt bag country singer Greenwood a hundred grand to make up a song for your campaign. Listen that old fool hasn't done a country and western jig in 20 years. In fact the fool can't sing since his 6 th ex-wife cut out his tounge during a family values drunken bawl over some Pot 2 years ago.

I am offering my services since after tonight Governor Huckabee won't be needing me as his personal bodyguard when gets his ass kick again in Florida. I can do all kind of things to fire up your campaign. I can wrestle some Gays in the nude to really draw attention to your campaign and the media. In Iowa, I wrestle the Snowqueen of Iowa and beat his butte to help Governor Huckabee win. Of course I can't go back to Iowa since somebody took out a arrest warrent for abusing a fake snowman in front of children.

Please consider my services and I do work cheap!

vanity campaigning

I don't believe I have heard of a more narcissistic political move since Lyndon LaRouche bought 1/2 hour of prime time back in 84 to promote himself for President.

I admit - I watched him, and still don't know what he was talking about. Neither did my Ivy-League educated husband.

So - if you had to have someone write a goofy campaign song

If you were running for office, and you had $100,000 laying around to get someone to write a song for you - who would you choose?

My money is on Zombie John Lennon, but I'm not sure if Frank can keep him reanimated long enough.

hee!

I bet he could do it, too.

I'd pay to hear Frank Black's take on Fred ...

excellent job again

Do you ever sleep?
Not that I'm complaining, I'm just worried about your health :-)

Poor Fred.

Not.

I also heard..

darling Fred also throws crayons at small children. It may be a rumor, however. Regardless, it makes for a stellar mental image.

He eats them.

The crayons, not the children. They taste red.

Ooooooh, he's mad at you...

From the Dome:

Campaign manager Jonathan Hill said that the money also went for things that Greenwood has not yet done, and he criticized a recent video by state Democrats lampooning the song.

"It's typical of the Democratic reaction that they jump to a conclusion when they don't have the facts," he said. "We've got a long campaign to go, and those expenses are related to the entire campaign, not just a song."

Smith would not specify what else Greenwood will do for the campaign, but he said it will be good.

Great video

Well, the comment at the Dome basically confirms it

Oh Jerimee~

I sent ya an email. You might not have recognized the email address on the return.

America's Mayor, via Ed Cone

This is what we will be facing in November. Forget "nonpartisan" and "coming together". This is the enemy, on message and well-funded.

Didn't "America's Mayor" get his ass handed to him in Florida?
It's no secret that he was a darling of Fox News and they hated McCain. Guess who won?
The only folks still watching Fox News are die hard Republicans and they will never vote for a Democrat anyway. We'll win the election by attracting a lot of young, new voters and unaffiliated voters, combined with the Democratic base.
If Fox News is the worst we have to fear, I'll be sleeping like a log tonight.
Just my 2 cents...

By the way, since you mention being on message all the time, I'm pretty sure by now the word "change" has been burned into most people's brain. I'm convinced that not many people will associate change with any republican.

I watch Fox News

and have voted for Democrats

In the evenings I might watch about 30 minutes from 7:30 to 8:00. Shepard Smith is good.

On the weekends, I watch Fox and Friends a little bit in the morning while I drink my coffee and read the paper.

CNN just doesn't do much for me. Either way, the television is not my primary or even seconday news source.

The only tv news I watch is on MSNBC

unless there's something big happening (disaster, etc.) Then I'll flip through the stations to see who has the best coverage.

The bulk of my news comes from the internet - and I always try to read primary source stuff, not blogs (for the first story, anyhow.)

Shepard Smith is easy to like,

but he's got the intelligence of a rock. I've never (outside of remedial English) heard someone mispronounce so many well-known words in my life. And it doesn't even phase him, because he's totally unaware he's doing it.
