The reason NC municipal races are so important

Fast-forward to about the 53 minute mark, the crazy starts at about 57 minutes in:

The ignorance and lack of courtesy

on display is overwhelming, but this sort of behavior is not uncommon with Republicans who have been continuously re-elected to county commission seats across North Carolina. That "purty words" comment is indicative of the mindset that drives these (mostly) male GOP commissioners to reject any research-based data in favor of their own navel-gazing view of the problems our society faces, but the voters keep sending them back.

Bob Byrd is a friend of mine, and (currently) the only Democrat on the 5-member Board. He's also one of the smartest and kindest people I've ever met, which both make him a ripe target for assholes like Bill Lashley.

Hmmm. Interesting.

I guess they don't use Robert's Rules of Order.
Our Person BOCC has disagreements but nothing like this. At least not at public meetings - maybe in closed session.

I'm a little pissed off

at the Chairman (Eddie Boswell), who used to be a Democrat but switched to R a couple years ago. He's a good man for the most part, but he should have censured Lashley for that behavior, instead of sitting there like a deer in the headlights.

Fail all around

It's no wonder people have so little interest in serving in local government. What a shit show.

Email Sent

I just sent the douchebag an email. Won't change anything but maybe it will cast a small shadow on his morning and spoil his mood for an hour or two. I'd count that as a win.

"Just saw the recording of the Aug 7 meeting and just wanted to drop you a line to not only protest your deeply offensive and inappropriate behavior, but also to note that based on what you said you are a *spectacularly* STUPID human being who is completely divorced from reality and centuries of science about what makes human beings tick.

Have a nice day."

Good job.

I may attend the next meeting just to see if he has the cojones to admit his mistake and apologize.
