Senator Hagan takes a stand for marriage equality

And it's the right thing to do:

"I know all our families do not look alike. We all want the same thing for our families. We want happiness, we want health, prosperity, a bright future for our children and grandchildren. After conversations I’ve had with family members, with people I go to church with and with North Carolinians from all walks of life, I’ve come to my own personal conclusion that we should not tell people who they can love, or who they can marry. It’s time to move forward with this issue.”

For all the flak Kay has taken (much of it justified) for some of her policy approaches and priorities, this took guts on her part, and should be remembered. The GOP will be gunning for her vigorously in the coming months, and it's going to take every tool in the box to keep from losing this seat.

Good news

Now I don't have to run against her.

: )

Heh. :)

That would be a hoot, though...

Damn, I was looking forward to that.

Dick Cheney supports equality too (and did so years ago)

... that doesn't mean I'm going to vote for him either.

As one of the resident GAYZ, of course it's nice when an elected official finally publicly acknowledges your humanity.

Does this "pink-wash" (or is it lavender-wash?) away the mountains of regressive policies Hagan enables? Of course not.

Hagan's public statement makes her no more palatable an elected official than Dick Cheney.

So Hagan supports marriage

So Hagan supports marriage Portman of her. Hows bout all the anti Democratic policies she has voted against? Suppose she will vote for Gun violance reform...I doubt it.
Hagan has proved herself to be mildly a Democrat...she gets credit for her ACA vote and she is smarter than Burr but who isn't? I still plan to sit my old gay ass at home.

Pictures from outside the court today

Today is the DOMA case day (pics found on advocate & joemygod):

In front of the court:

Here's a picture making it's rounds on the internet today. I think it's mostly because of the similar angry facial expressions in both the pics. But seriously, if you're standing along side of Westboro, you might want to consider which side you're on.

Good news.

It seems like Amendment one changed many minds. That was a defeat but right after that President Obama finally came out in support of gay marriage.

Sure Amendment 1 did

Sure Amendment 1 did it....that was Obama catalyst! What minds did it change...sorry did it pass ...I missed the vote? North Carolina is on a jack boot footed march back to the 50s. Amendment 1 had..has effect in this backward looking state. Welcome to Mississippi East.

Those who fail to evolve

... will always find extinction waiting for them.

Hagan has proven herself to be only slightly left of Burr, which still puts her well to the right of center.

Kay Hagan

The LGBT Democrats reached our goal of $1000 for Kay Hagan in only 5 hours! We're raising that goal to $2,500.00. Let's keep it going and show Sen. Hagan we will stand up for her because she is standing up for us!

ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha....she cannot seem to stand up for the poor, latinos, Democrats. But does a helluva job standing up for Bank of America, BB&T, Wells Fargo etc.... Thousand bucks. Congratulations . Lots of luck next year.

At least they are out there doing something more

... than typing on a keyboard. They are putting their money, time, energy and commitment towards a cause they feel is worthy.

$250 to go!

Though Senator Hagan isn't perfect, and though I was late to the Hagan camp (big volunteer for the Jim Neal campaign back in the day), if the options to replace her are Rep. Ellmers or State Senator Berger, then it really puts things in perspective. There's an FEC filing deadline coming up at the end of this month.

I figured I'd probably eventually donate to her campaign anyways, might as well do it now in a way that shows support for LGBT equality and the new LGBT Dem Caucus. Only $250 to go to hit the $2500 go. Hopefully that happens before the FEC deadline.

You folks need to judge her by her full record

Not just a few choice votes that happen to support your particular spin.
Per Project Vote Smart - Kay Hagan vs Richard Burr

If you actually take the time to look you'll see that Hagan consistently rates 70-80% pro liberal while Burr is a complete flip with scores around 20% (or 90+% if rated for being conservative). The catagories I noticed the most were education and conservation. Hagan had A's and 90's from pro ed groups; Burr F's and other flunking grades. Hagan scored well with most environmental groups and of course Burr did not.

To say that Hagan is only slightly left of Burr is not supported by facts, but you are entitled to your delusions.
