Simple deception

I look forward every month to the Civitas review, a splendid example of right-wing propaganda at its best and worst. The magazine not only reveals how carefully Mr. Pope is cultivating new "talent" for his cause, but also the culture of deception that pervades all of his sideshows. Consider this simple example, an ad appearing in the inside front cover. Just click for the schlock in all its glory.

With that sleight of hand in mind, consider this the official announcement of my next July 4th party. Invited guests include Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, Jim Webb, and the Dalai Lama. The Rolling Stones will be invited for entertainment. Do come.

Palin and Sessions

How sad is that?

"Grassroots Activists School"?

Is that like what Palin denounced as "community organizing"? Or maybe the how-to's of astroturfing?

Maybe Traction could invade the place?

Hey Lanya Shapiro ... it would be great if 30 or 40 of your wonderful Tractivists signed up to get turfed!

I'm only half joking.

would love to

but more than anything else, i'm so jealous of the way the right prioritizes [read: funds] leadership development.

you KNOW all the (year-round) training and convening they do through their various institutions have to cost big, big bucks. on our side, we have to struggle to get funding for small projects from people/foundations with pet causes, and try to piece it all together. general support is so hard to find, and very few funders get the importance of investing in long-term infrastructure- and movement-building work...

i've veered off the topic of deception -- sorry! after spending a good part of my weekend writing a proposal for yet another grant with some pretty rigid boxes to fit into, the money chase is weighing heavily on me...

can't wait for that party though, james -- if U2's invited, i'm there!

Feel like you're spinning your wheels?
Get some Traction... turning energy into progressive movement

Tractivist scholarships

I'll cover as many Tractivist scholarships as you want. That applies to other progressives who want to attend as well. Contact me by email.

James, did you notice this?

Civitas (idiots that they are) has actually made a connection I tried to make several months ago which directly ties them to the white supremacist group stirring up trouble on the UNCCH campus and at other schools.

Chancellor Thorp, if you're reading this, now do you understand?

I missed it

The magazine is such a target-rich environment. What's surprising is how much of the lunacy they're willing to put into print. But never fear, they'll deny whatever happens to suit their ends.

  • Tom "Not Gay" Fetzer
  • Dallas "Not Dog" Woodhouse
  • Civitas "Not White Supremacists" Institute
  • Art "Not Puppetmaster" Pope

It's bizarre.

Can you hear me knockin'?

There is still time to get your place at the table and hear all those inspiring speaker AND learn how to lie when people know you are lying and still repeat the lie without either caring or batting an eyelash.

I'd love to go to a few of the training classes...

I say we all pitch in and send Steve or Will. It could be some great reporting back on the propoganda that is coming down the pike, so to speak. ;-)

North Carolina. Turning the South Blue!

What about John Lennon and Elvis?

Have you invited them yet?

50 states, 210 media market, 435 Congressional Districts, 3080 counties, 192,480 precincts

I thought about John Lennon

but my invitation was returned unopened. Elvis ... not so much.

If you get

Jerry Garcia to show up, I just might be there.

Funny, Stan.

I'm amazed at how instinctively they lie. It's the Right Way.

Stan, you crack me up.

"They took all the trees and put them in a tree museum Then they charged the people a dollar 'n a half just to see 'em. Don't it always seem to go that you don't know what you've got till it's gone? They paved paradise and put up a parking lot."
