Some Christians

A friend in divinity school told a story yesterday that made me angry. As a first year student, she was assigned to intern at an evangelical church here in North Carolina. Everything was fine until the church discovered she was a black woman. That discovery prompted the church to reject the internship and withdraw from the program altogether.

Some Christians.

If there's any way to reveal

If there's any way to reveal the church without revealing your friend, you should.

I wish I could

But my friend would be compromised. My scant satisfaction lies in the fact that they know who they are.

This Sunday's sermon

at that church ought to be interesting. Perhaps the preacher will tell us that Jesus said to love thy neighbor as thyself, except of course for the gays, non-whites and poor people; and you have to remember that women don't count.
