Tillis caves, agrees to participate in debate

Thom Tillis, apparently acknowledging the tightening race for the NC GOP US Senate nomination, hiked up his big boy pants and agreed to participate in WRAL's debate after previously declining.

State House Speaker Thom Tillis says he will participate in a WRAL News debate on April 23.

Tillis initially declined the invitation, citing a scheduling conflict.

What was his scheduling conflict? An earlier story reveals that:

"We worked to try to accommodate the WRAL debate but had a long-standing commitment we couldn't break" [said Jordan Shaw, Tillis' campaign manager]

Apparently the long-standing commitment could be broken after all, 'cause Thom just broke it, after saying that he couldn't. In other words, Thom's campaign was lying.

But we all knew that. That's what Thom does.

And the rest

The first WRAL article tell us that

WRAL News extended debate invitations to candidates who reached 10 percent support in polls of likely Republican primary voters.

That would be Tillis, Greg Brannon, Mark Harris and Heather Grant.

That is a LOT of crazy in one room. Grab yer popcorn, folks, this nutfest will be broadcast live:

will air live at 7p.m. on WRAL-TV in the Triangle and WILM-TV in Wilmington. WRAZ-TV Fox 50 will air the debate at 11 p.m. on April 23. The debate will also be available online and available to other broadcast outlets across the state and nation via satellite.

"I will have a priority on building relationships with the minority caucus. I want to put substance behind those campaign speeches." -- Thom Tillis, Nov. 5, 2014

Running scared

I hope the person giving Tillis advice keeps it up. The guy is lurching from one bad decision to another.

Of course, given his supersized ego, that person is probably Thom Tillis himself.

Tillis is probably afraid they will ask him hard questions like, "Where did you go to school?" Nobody remembers where they went to school.

There is a link headline at the CharO

that reads, "How to watch the senate debate"....or something along those lines. The first thing that popped into my head was, "with a lot of alcohol."

Vote Democratic! The ass you save may be your own.

Word of caution:

If any drinking games are attempted, make sure "Obamacare" isn't one of the trigger words. People will be incoherent after the first ten minutes, and carted off with alcohol poisoning shortly after that.

Right up there with god, the flag and apple pie. Should be a fascinating study of the bizarre world of Republican paranoia.

That one's worth 28 days

in rehab and a folding driver's license. ;)
